Cat vs Cafe (30/70)
Well-Suited: Review of Cat Cafe Myeongdong
We might have missed this cafe if it had not been for a man in a cat suit.
Which is a good thing, because it wasn't on our list. It's become so common, we expect to encounter at least one unanticipated cat cafe in every Asian city we visit.
The cat in the suit was positioned on a busy pedestrian street in the shopping and tourism mecca of Myeongdong. We abandoned our plans for lunch and made our way up to the 4th floor where they advertised 35 cats and one free drink. My first impression was that the room, while comfortably worn, smelled fresh and had soft music playing, both big atmosphere enhancers in this reviewers mind.
We each paid our 9000 won ($7.82) fee and placed our drink orders (green tea latte and iced tea) with the friendly barista behind the counter. Administration complete, we turned our focus to the cats. We counted 25 beautiful babies, a variety of Norwegian Forest Cats, Scottish Folds, Ragdolls, Persians, Exotics and even a couple of Sphinx's. Most of the kitties were sociable and entertaining, sitting on laps and chasing toys.
With a large variety of good-natured felines, agreeable staff, great drinks and a pleasant, odor-free environment, Cat Cafe Myeongdong (via Metro Euljiro 1/Line 2 or Myeong-dong/Line 4) is well-worth a visit when in Seoul.
